This recipe came from an old online friend of mine named Rebecca. She is a whiz at creating frugal recipes, or adapting as needed. She used to have a site called Blue Garlic, but I think it's gone. This is her recipe for Beefaroni. Very kid-friendly, especially for "older" kids ;-)
INGREDIENTS
2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
up to 1 lb ground beef
1 garlic clove, minced or 1/8 tsp garlic powder
1 small onion, chopped, or ¼ tsp onion powder
2 cans condensed tomato soup
1 (soup) can of water
2 tsp sugar
Salt and pepper
STEPS
Cook macaroni according to package directions, then drain. Meanwhile, brown beef, garlic and onion in a skillet until beef is cooked. Pour into a strainer, and run hot tap water over the mixture to rinse away excess grease. Return to skillet.
Mix the soup with the water and sugar and add to the beef. Add the macaroni and cook over medium high for about 10 minutes or until sauce boils and thickens slightly.
