All the kids were fascinated by the miniature room displays
Today we had the privilege of visiting the Phoenix Art Museum. For free!
Our libraries have a program called "Culture Passes" where you can "check out" admission, good for 2 or 4 people depending on the place, to various cultural museums and zoos around the valley. These are hot items and very hard to get as there is only one admission per place, per day. People literally stand in line for an hour or more hoping to get that free pass.
So, last week we went to the library. We always walk by the Culture Pass station, just in case. We were surprised to find a few passes still available. One was for the Phoenix Zoo, but I figured that's because it's just too hot to go, even at 7 a.m. The other was for the Phoenix Art Museum. I was reluctant to get it, but the kids pleaded so I went ahead and checked it out, warning the kids that it might not be much fun.
Tyler and I had gone to the Art Museum a few months ago for a field trip, but they had only taken us through a small portion of it. Tyler remembered a few of the exhibits and wanted to show them to Katelyn.
I looked online and saw that kids could check out activity totes to try to make the museum more interesting for them. So, we did that. But, the kids didn't really like the totes, so we didn't use them.
Surprisingly, we spent 1.5 hours there. We mostly walked past lots and lots of paintings and discovered that we prefer other mediums better. However, they had a kids area where kids could create so they spent a good amount of time there.
There was also an exhibit of miniature period rooms. The kids thoroughly enjoyed these rooms, even my 9 year old boy. The other large portion of our time was spent there.
We took snacks and ate them under an awning overlooking their large grassy area. Thankfully it wasn't too hot in the shade so we were able to last about 5-10 minutes.
As we were leaving, the kids were talking about going again, which surprised me, too. But, they said they enjoyed it!
Made another menu change tonight as I have lots of salad fixings to ate up. We had taco salad, with ground beef and a little bit of corn mixed in, and cheese tacos. It was delicious!
